Both of us relied on previous editions of Imaging del torace: radiologia polmonare e cardiovascolare during our radiology training, considering it “the Bible” of thoracic and cardiac radiology. We are now thrilled to continue this tradition with the fourth edition. Rick and Charley had a vision for this book: to offer a single volume providing a comprehensive, yet easy-to-understand review of thoracic pulmonary and cardiovascular imaging, and our goal has been to maintain this approach. The work is designed to provide the foundations of thoracic imaging, including chest radiography, CT/CTA, and MRI/MRA, for medical students, residents, and fellows in radiology, pulmonology, cardiology, and cardiovascular surgery.

In this edition, chapters are grouped into sections organized by key findings, fundamental clinical problems, or diagnoses, in the hope that this helps the reader develop a systematic understanding of pathology and diagnosis. Several new chapters have been added, including “Magnetic Resonance Imaging of the Chest” (Chap. 4), “Diaphragm” (Chap. 27), and “CT Angiography as a Guide to Procedures for Structural Heart Diseases” (Chap. 42). Advances in the understanding of pulmonary and cardiovascular diseases continue, and many entities discussed in the sections and chapters are newly defined, redefined, reclassified, or have received a clearer diagnostic definition. Hundreds of new or updated images, new tables, and illustrations have been included to summarize and illustrate these additions and changes.
