The study of the small bowel represents the final frontier of gastrointestinal radiology.
The advent of multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) has eliminated artifacts related to intestinal peristalsis and has enabled accurate evaluation of contrast enhancement of bowel loops and mesentery.
Radiological attention, once mainly focused on abdominal parenchymal organs, is now directed toward assessment of the small intestine, which is no longer considered a disturbing element. MDCT has become the most widely used imaging modality for small bowel evaluation.
The aim of this volume is to provide a comprehensive overview of CT semiotics of the major diseases affecting the small intestine, supported by extensive imaging documentation.
A distinctive feature of this work is the combined discussion of elective and emergency pathologies. The book therefore meets the needs of practicing radiologists and residents, as well as gastroenterologists, general surgeons and physicians working in emergency settings.
