    The Gynaeceia of Soranus of Ephesus, the first gynecologist in history, served for thirteen centuries as the principal reference text in gynecology and obstetrics.<\/p>\n

    Probably written at the end of the 1st century AD, it was translated into several languages, including Arabic, Hebrew and Latin.<\/p>\n

    This edition presents the first of the four books, focusing on the role and competence of the midwife and addressing topics such as the uterus, menstruation, virginity, conception, contraception and abortion.<\/p>\n
