    At first glance, the relationship between ophthalmology and obstetrics-gynecology may appear limited. However, epidemiological data reveal that blindness and severe visual impairment predominantly affect women worldwide.<\/p>\n

    Many systemic diseases, particularly autoimmune disorders, preferentially involve both the female sex and the eye. Genetic background and hormonal factors contribute to the increased vulnerability of the female eye.<\/p>\n

    Pregnancy, breastfeeding and menopause induce significant hormonal changes with relevant ocular implications. Estrogens, for instance, exert a protective effect on several ocular functions and on retinal and optic nerve circulation.<\/p>\n

    This book aims to highlight the intersections between ophthalmology and obstetrics-gynecology, offering a concise and accessible overview for both
