    This monograph aims to provide readers with the most up-to-date knowledge in the multidisciplinary field of colorectal carcinoma, with particular focus on epidemiology, genetics, chemoprevention, pathology, surgery, radiotherapy, chemotherapy and biological therapies.<\/p>\n

    Due to the breadth of topics covered, the book is intended for medical students, oncologists, surgeons, radiation oncologists, internists, epidemiologists and general practitioners with an interest in colorectal cancer.<\/p>\n

    Few cancers have witnessed such rapid advances in biological knowledge and innovative therapeutic strategies as colorectal cancer, resulting in significant improvements in prevention, diagnostics and treatment outcomes.<\/p>\n

    Over the last 20\u201330 years, a true revolution has occurred in molecular genetics, translational research, imaging diagnostics, multimodal approaches and surgical techniques. While surgery remains central, it is now integrated within a multidisciplinary decision-making framework.<\/p>\n

    This volume highlights the essential interaction between surgical and medical therapies, even in metastatic disease, emphasizing how biological therapies can convert previously inoperable cases into candidates for curative treatment.<\/p>\n

    Barriers related to age and conditions such as HIV infection have largely been overcome, allowing curative treatment strategies in broader patient populations. Lifestyle factors such as diet and physical activity are also discussed as key components in prevention strategies.<\/p>\n

    Genetic risk factors, often underestimated, are addressed in detail, underscoring the importance of appropriate screening programs. Despite recent regional initiatives in Italy, screening adherence remains low, reinforcing the relevance of this cultural and scientific contribution.<\/p>\n
