Ultrasound Guided Intra-Articular Hip Injection: Technique and Clinical Applications

14 × 21 cm format, 144 pages, full colour, with numerous illustrations and tables.

We have developed a standardized technique for ultrasound-guided intra-articular injection of the hip joint, with the aim of extending routine intra-articular injection of hyaluronans and steroids to the hip, as is commonly performed in the knee.

Our experience has shown that, in expert hands, ultrasound guidance for intra-articular injections is a technique that is simple to perform, effective, safe and well tolerated.

The procedure can be repeated in the same patient without significant changes in tolerability or safety, and without the risks associated with repeated exposure to ionizing radiation for either the patient or the operator.

The clinical and scientific data obtained using this technique demonstrate that ultrasound-guided therapy of the hip can reduce symptoms and probably slow structural osteoarthritic damage by decreasing inflammatory flares. Furthermore, it may reduce both healthcare costs and costs related to total hip replacement.

This book describes the technique of ultrasound-guided injection of the hip, presents clinical reports and scientific results, and discusses future prospects for intra-articular therapies.

We hope that this book will serve not only as a comprehensive treatise on the state of the art of ultrasound-guided intra-articular hip injections, but also as an incentive for specialists wishing to begin performing this therapeutic technique.
