Three-volume work (22 x 28 cm format), over 3000 pages, online contributions, more than 2200 full-color images, numerous tables, printed entirely in color.
The ninth edition of Rockwood and Green – Traumatologia dell’adulto represents both a substantial step forward and a continuation of the work accomplished in previous editions. We have expanded coverage of topics that are becoming increasingly important in our field, particularly in relation to patients with complex physiology and perioperative management challenges.
Five entirely new chapters have been added: “Obesity and Diabetes in Orthopedic Trauma” (Ch. 22), “Perioperative Management of Pain Associated with Fractures” (Ch. 27), “Chest Wall Injuries” (Ch. 44), “Design and Technical Considerations in Internal Fixation” (Ch. 12), and “Principles of Pathophysiology and Treatment of Traumatic Nerve Injuries” (Ch. 19).
We have also expanded coverage of periprosthetic fractures of the upper extremity, proximal forearm fractures (olecranon, proximal radius and radial head), and atypical femoral fractures, each of which is now presented as a dedicated chapter in this edition.
The coverage in each of these areas is what readers expect from Rockwood and Green – comprehensive, clear, magnificently illustrated reviews authored by leading international experts.
We have continued our effort to make chapters easier to read and consult without sacrificing depth. Each clinical chapter follows a uniform format and includes preoperative planning checklists, key surgical steps, and tables outlining potential pitfalls and preventive measures. An annotated bibliography highlights key clinical trials and foundational studies. The “Author’s Preferred Treatment” section, appreciated since its introduction, presents a concise therapeutic algorithm based on the detailed content of each chapter.
We are grateful to the contributing experts whose knowledge and time make this work a global reference in orthopedic trauma care, improving patient management worldwide—an objective shared by all of us.
