The introduction of a new official nomenclature by the Federative Committee on Anatomical Terminology (FCAT) required a complete revision of this illustrated anatomy manual.
The new Anatomical Terminology refers to the previous nomenclature and includes additional findings, particularly related to the urogenital tract and the central nervous system, resulting in a significant increase in the total number of entries.
The Commission’s strict adherence to Latin terms is particularly commendable, as they remain the only universally accepted anatomical language, improving precision across specialties.
Equally noteworthy is the FCAT’s effort to standardize previously controversial terms, such as fasciae, making them mandatory for all users.
As in previous editions, the illustrations were created by Prof. Gerhard Spitzer, who revised existing figures, added new ones, and ensured a seamless visual progression.
The guiding concept of the book is to provide a concise yet comprehensive overview, combining text and images, of all anatomically accepted terms based on international agreements.
