Compared to the “classic” treatise, it differs from the outset in its choice of topics: ethical issues, methodology and prevention, the evolution of the paediatric outpatient clinic, attention to “new” chronic diseases and to the care of children affected by them. Psychomotor development disorders and more specifically psychological and psychiatric conditions are also given the prominence they deserve in “new paediatrics”, both at primary and specialist level.
