Eco-Doppler is the method of choice for evaluating vessels supplying the brain, particularly in the context of surgical management of carotid stenosis. Used by both radiologists and cardiologists, it combines B-mode ultrasound with different Doppler modalities, including spectral or pulsed Doppler, power Doppler and colour Doppler.
Both technical execution and image interpretation require specific training. This third edition has been thoroughly revised and updated by the authors, including the iconography. It addresses new techniques for assessing the arterial wall and atheromatous plaque, as well as transcranial colour Doppler.
The first two chapters cover anatomical fundamentals, Doppler and transcranial ultrasound technique and normal findings. The following chapters describe atherosclerotic disease, stenoses, occlusions and arterial dissections, radiation-induced lesions, post-operative appearances and stent follow-up. The final chapter focuses on rare conditions presented as clinical cases.
The colour iconography and the correspondence between colour Doppler imaging and arteriography enhance the practical value of this work, intended for radiologists, cardiologists, angiologists and neurologists who wish to perform and interpret this examination.
