Prenatal pathology, and fetal malformations in particular, represent a complex challenge for the perinatal team and a significant emotional burden for the couple, who must face rapid diagnostic decisions, quality-of-life assessments, and appropriate perinatal management strategies.

This book was developed to optimize diagnosis and prognosis in fetuses with structural anomalies through the establishment of dedicated perinatal medicine units, where multidisciplinary collaboration represents a consolidated and shared working model.

What can currently be observed in the embryo and fetus using routine obstetric tools represents only one aspect of fetal development and well-being. Pregnancy and maternal–fetal–placental–environmental interactions remain a research field that is still largely unexplored.
