In this third volume, following the initiative promoted by the Italian Society of Microsurgery (SIM) to accompany each presidency, the chosen topic is the “timing of treatment in peripheral nerve injuries”.

The subject is well known; however, perspectives are not always uniform. This often generates uncertainty and therapeutic decisions that do not always align with the prevailing scientific literature.

One of the motivations that led the Presidency and the Editorial Board to address this topic was the lack of comprehensive publications within the Italian bibliographic context, aside from works that do not specifically focus on the subject or that are limited to individual nerves.

The volume is structured in a first section dedicated to basic research and diagnostic methodologies in peripheral nerve injuries, followed by a specialist section organised according to the various anatomical districts.

The specialists involved, brought together under the aegis of SIM, provide shared recommendations intended to support both young clinicians entering practice and more experienced colleagues seeking a common reference framework when managing injuries of the peripheral nervous system.

The volume also carries significant medico-legal relevance, as recommendations issued by a national scientific society may serve as a reference point for jurisprudence in cases of litigation.

Sincere thanks are extended to all Authors who contributed to the drafting of this work, dedicating time beyond their professional and personal commitments, as well as to the Editorial Board for their support throughout its compilation.

Special thanks are also due to Dr. G. Lombardi and the staff of Verduci Editore for their guidance and support in the graphic development of the monograph.
