This book is intended to support physicians and cardiologists in everyday clinical practice when managing patients with cardiovascular diseases. Designed as a practical guide, it necessarily adopts a concise and structured approach, with much of the information presented in lists and tables, particularly in sections devoted to pharmacological therapy.

Since the publication of the fourth edition, significant advances have occurred in many areas of cardiology, all of which are reflected in this updated edition. Several chapters have been extensively revised, especially those addressing hypertension, ischaemic heart disease, heart failure and endocarditis.

The section on cardiac pacing provides more detailed coverage of biventricular pacing and implantable cardioverter-defibrillators. Particular emphasis has also been placed on diabetes mellitus, discussed within the chapter on the heart in systemic diseases.

In response to feedback, the book includes a substantially increased number of illustrations, enhancing its educational value and readability. Among all medical specialties, cardiology occupies a leading position in evidence-based practice. The text reflects the most important clinical trials, with an expanded final bibliography section.
